Goodland has been called, "a drinking community with a fishing problem." What else can I say? Actually, Goodland is a great place to live. The residents work tirelessly, day-in, day-out pushing the limits of the term "casual." They've actually redefined it. When Stan, a local bar owner, passed away, his casket was placed on stage during his wake/going away party. True story. Anyway, the real estate here consists of quaint waterfront homes and condos, all with direct access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Homes in Goodland
The homes in Goodland are shabby chic. Mostly waterfront fishing cottages, the homes and serene canals create a quiet, casual atmosphere. Affordable, water-direct homes offer great fishing only minutes from your back door.
We've mentioned that Goodland is called "the drinking village with a fishing problem" for good reason. The hood ornament on Goodland is Stan's Idle Hour, a big bar and music venue. Homeowners in Goodland don't have to worry about driving home after a long Sunday at Stan's. All of the homes are only a short walk from the fun.
Condos in Goodland
There aren't many condos in Goodland but the ones here are special. Great waterfront condos like Calusa Island Village and Coon Key Pass Fishing Village are usually grabbed up by fishing and boating enthusiasts. Like the homes in Goodland, catching a Snook for dinner couldn't be easier.
Calusa Island Village condos are really the first structures you'll see as you roll into town. On stilts, these condos really have the Florida home vibe. A direct access canal is steps away. The garages, being located under the homes, are huge with plenty of room for kayaks or jet skis.
* The value shown in the Dock Type column represents the best option in the particular condo complex. This value is not necessarily attributable to all units. Assigned and Deeded docks are owned by you, the condo owner and are the best option for avid boaters. Leased docks are often readily available. Available really can mean just about anything. So, we recommend you call us to research the particular unit to determine the true availability.
Boating and Fishing from Goodland
Getting to the Gulf from Goodland is easy. There are no bridges to navigate under. It'll take maybe twenty minutes. The best boating and fishing, though, doesn't even require a ride to the Gulf. Goodland is immersed in the Ten Thousand Islands. There are endless miles of waist-deep waterways abutting this little town. Tourists come from around the world to fish these waters. Mackerel, Snook, Red Fish, Cobia and Dolphin are all over the place.
Not into fishing? The boating is great here, too. Find a deserted little beach and have a picnic. The calm water is great for jet skiing and wake boarding, too.
The Goodland Lifestyle
Located at the southeast corner of Marco Island, Goodland is a small fishing village which offers dwellers a laid back charm unlike any other geographical location in Florida. For the person who desires a more private and rural setting, Goodland is definitely the right choice. In some ways, whatever Marco Island is, Goodland is the opposite and the residents love it that way.
Founded by Johnny Roberts in the late 1800s, it was originally named Goodland Point. This is because it featured a 40-acre shell mound left by the Calusa Indians. With the mound being exceptionally rich soil for growing fruit and vegetables and the fact that the fishing was ideal and plentiful, the village of Goodland was begun. Living here is taking a right step back in time to a secluded, sleepy village with a slower pace of life. If you still want to see another community with still a completely different vibe from both Marco Island and Goodland, check out Isles of Capri. You might concider it a happy medium between the two others.
Goodland was completely isolated until 1938 when State Road 92 was finished and a swing bridge connecting Goodland to the rest of Florida was installed. The winding road which leads to the State road is marked by seashells from the Calusa mounds. Goodland is a quaint fishing village which provides a slower, gentler pace of life which is the large part of its charm.
Five Things to Know
Stan's Idle Hour draws huge crowds on Sunday with live music, burgers on the grill and their punch.
Upon his untimely passing, Stan himself, insisted that his wake be held at the bar. His casket was displayed on stage during the event. In Goodland, this isn't creepy.
Besides Stan's, Little Bar and Old Marco Lodge Crab House are great spots to grab dinner and drink.
If you choose an inland home, Walkers Marine has a marina here with plenty of boat storage.
If you like Goodland, check out Port of the Islands, too. Located about a twenty minute drive away, this quiet community is great for fishing and boating, as well.
